The party travels West to continue looking for the herbalist. The thick foliage slows the party’s progress. While cutting through thick fines the group becomes uneasy as a large creature flies overhead. Stricken with fear ember runs for cover. The large winged beast is seen with large towns. After some time amber calms herself and returns from her hiding place, the base of a fallen tree. After some deliberation about what direction to proceed the group makes camp for the night and finds that they can use the heavy vines as shelter. Heavy rain starts but the makeshift shelter provides cover from the rain and hides the group from the winged beast. Midway through the 3rd watch of the night Maleth and his trusted wolf companion Jarvis, hear the haunting cry of a Griffin in the distance.
In the morning as the rain calms and a thick fog rolls in reducing visibility as the travelers continue their search. Using his compass Taco, the elven artificer, does his best to assist with navigation using his compass. Maleth, the ranger, leads the group to a gorge. After some deliberation of how to cross the gorge the group decides that they should go around it so that they can safely bring all of the party members and their horses to the other side. Taco uses his great perception skill to find and avoid the slickest parts of mud in the path. Ember with her incredible acrobatics abilities does her best to safely travel the trail. Malev experienced with the forest he uses his Ranger skills to avoid danger. Rahi looks for building materials to make the trail more possible. Richard prepares for the trail by fashioning something to look like snowshoes to increase traction on the muddy trail.
Having safely traversed the trail around the gorge the Ranger finds wagon ruts and the party continues their search. The ring finally stops Jarvis picks up ascent and locates a Groundhog and tears it to pieces. The party makes camp for the night. The temperature drops overnight and a light snowfall covers the ground.
As morning brakes the party continues on its search along the trail and after several hours the party finds a broken cart with a dead body next to it alongside a dead horse. The party approaches with caution and is surprised by the sound of a horn.
A group of scorn bandits ambush the party, charging from a natural blind. Brahi needs to battle against the scorn threat. With a strike of his heavy hammer he deals a killing blow to a scorn leaving the bloody imprint of Hello Kitty island adventure upon his foe. Maleth with his mighty oh draws and shoots one of the scorn. Jarvis movies in to bite a scorn but misses. Richard scores a critical hit upon scorn, killing it in a single blow. A wave of the scorn attack the party but deal no damage. Ember taunts the scorn, saying “the bug bear send their regards”, and then stabs the scorn with her rapier, killing it. Taco, trembling in fear, uses his mutagen ability upon himself not knowing how it would react. A tough looking scorn on a dire wolf rides in and attacks Taco.
Taco having equipped his chain tooth weapon loudly ripped through the dire wolf as it runs towards Brahi. The leg of the dire wolf falls to the ground separated from the rest of it’s body. The once mighty beast falls to the ground and bleeds out. The tough looking scorn transforms taking on the shape of a werewolf and strikes Taco. Taco clubs a scorn killing him. Maleth nocks a silver tipped arrow and lets lose. The arrow strikes the werewolf in the shoulder and it cries out in pain and then rips the arrow from its shoulder throwing it to the ground. Jarvis lunges in to bite out of scorn and misses and in turn the scorn swings its club at Jarvis also missing. Taco feels some relief as his mutagen provide some healing effect. Taco attacks the werewolf with his chain tooth weapon, making deep jagged cuts into the beast. Taco attacks a scorn dealing more damage he regained some additional health from his mutagen. Ember kills another scorn. Jarvis takes another blow from a scorn. Richard takes a critical blow. Maleth moves into position to get flanking with Jarvis against the scorn that had been attacking Jarvis. Jarvis ferociously leaps up and latches on to the scorns neck ripping out its throat. Maleth uses one of his daggers, throwing it to strike one of the scorn.
The werewolf bites ember. Amber repositions herself to attack the werewolf with her lightning attack from the magical dragon bone rapier. A huge blast of energy radiates from the rapier leaving a mighty hole in the werewolves chest and then the foliage beyond. The werewolf drops to its knees and then slumps down and thuds upon the ground. Realizing that nearly everything can be a throwing weapon if you try hard enough, Maleth throws his rapier out one of the scorn, striking and killing it. The last remaining foe from the party of scorn, a lone dire wolf, seeing that the rest of its group has now perished runs off into the forest. Maleth manages to nock and fire a final arrow at the dire wolf as it runs away.
The party takes a short rest to recover from the battle. Searching the bodies of their foe they find coins totaling 26 gold and a flask of teal liquid. Having asked many times for permission, Taco identifiers the potion as a potion of size modification, but he was unable to determine if it causes it’s user to increase or decrease in size. The dead body was identified as the missing herbalist. The group collects the heads of the scorn to deliver to the bug bear tribe. A hidden compartment is located on the cart 1860g and a brass key. the key is and inside is an additional 20g and a necklace with a gold chain and Mithril wings. Taco takes the necklace.
